Lego Masters Showcase

Wall Street Mall, in conjunction with Tūhura Otago Museum is proud to showcase this incredible Lego Masterpiece – ‘Hope Defeats Despair’ by Jono Samson (Gisborne).

This striking build, created by Jono Samson, was the winning entry in LEGO® Masters NZ Season One, Episode 6. Titled ‘Hope Defeats Despair’, it serves as a powerful reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, a glimmer of hope remains.

For Jono, LEGO® has been a source of healing, helping him overcome personal tragedies, including the death of his father, struggle with depression subsequent to an ADHD diagnosis, and winning a battle with lymphoma. “Lego building has not only shaped my life – it’s saved my life,” he says.

Created by Australian LEGO® Masters Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler, the exhibition imagines a future where LEGO® Minifigures have built new civilizations inside everyday relics, such as a time machine crafted from a grandfather clock, a cryonics facility in a vintage fridge, and a spaceport in a retro arcade. Visitors can explore these intricate creations, enjoy interactive activities like a ‘Build Your Own’ space, meet the creators, and take part in an exclusive scavenger hunt. The exhibition highlights creativity, sustainability, and the imaginative potential of LEGO®, offering fun for all ages.
